National vs. Local Coverage by a Major News Organization

    In the world of media coverage, the difference between the national and local news shapes our perspective and view of the world around us. Today we will dive into the halls of congress and the streets of our neighborhoods to see the balance between major news organizations and the differences between their national and local coverage.

    Congress’s coverage is usually marked on the national beat by investigative reporting, in-depth analyzing, and picking up on political moves. It appears as though legislative battles, showdowns between each party, and more are all composed in articles to give readers an understanding of all the issues at hand.

    The local level looks a bit different however, as the tone and the way content is compiled differs. The coverage is based on issues that impact the community directly from local governance. The usual themes of political parties and government as a whole stay the same, but the emphasis is built around how those things actually play a role and make a difference either positively or negatively in the everyday citizen’s life.

    While there are major differences between the two, the goal remains largely the same. To captivate readers attention, appeal to their interests, and provide relevant and timely information that is appreciated by their audience. The overarching goal is to inform, educate, and equip their readers.

    To conclude, the dichotomy between the local and national coverage gives an interesting glimpse at the very complex and contrasting natures of media reporting. Each side has its own set of challenges and priorities, but the goal is still largely the same. To offer insight on the things happening in our world, and equip readers to be able to engage with the world surrounding them.

Analyzing a Speech

        I attended a message or speech from a pastor, and he dove into the mentality of being “All In For Christ.” He began by pointing out the difference between merely professing allegiance to Christ and having a true commitment to Christ that is evident in one’s daily life. He used verses from James 4, and he highlighted the many dangers of having divided allegiances when in relationship of following Jesus and being trapped in worldly desires. The central idea of the message was built around the necessity of complete and radical devotion to Jesus Christ, and called believers and followers of Jesus to be all in or completely committed to their relationship with Him. The speaker heavily emphasized that there was not any room for half hearted devotion to Christ or anywhere at all in the Christian’s life.
